Verse 1. Paul and Timotheus, who have given themselves to service of Jesus the Anointed One, and to all the people who have separated themselves to living for Jesus Christ from Philippi and also including the ones that watch over them and meet their needs.

- In many of the commentaries it says that Timothy wasn’t the co author but was greeting with Paul and he was so precious to all of them it was a matter of honor that Paul was bestowing on him

The overseers and ministers was listed last to show that the saints took precedence over them

Verse 2. May God’s grace and peace be granted to you by God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

Verse 3. I remember you constantly with such thankfulness in my heart.
- Paul hadn’t actually been with them for 10 years so this made the Philippians so pleased because he obviously had great fondness for them.

Verse 4. always offering up my prayers for you with joy
- It was Pauls way of actively participating in his friends lives

Verse 5. For your part in spreading the good news since we met

Verse 6. I am absolutely convinced that God will finish the good thing He started in your lives and ministry.

Verse 8. I can tell you truthfully before God how much I deeply love and long for you with all the love that Jesus Christ has given me.

Verse 9. And I pray that your love will grow more and more in intellect and in true perspective and good judgment.

- It was Paul's prayer that the Philippians" love for other believers would abound, run over as a cup or a river overflows. But that love should be more than sentimental; it should be knowledgeable and discerning. Having genuine spiritual knowledge (epignosis) of God and depth of insight into His ways enables Christians to love God and others more. (This Gr. word for "insight" [aisthesis] occurs only here in the NT.)

Verse 10. So you may be able to be assured of and proof of what the difference between what is wrong and what is the best righteous things, in your mind and in judgment.

Verse 15. Some really are preaching Christ and have mocking and jealous attitudes but some also have good spirits too.

- as wrong as it is for preachers to go off on selfish tangents, if they are preaching about true salvation Christ is glorified

Verse 16. the ones with good attitudes do it with love, knowing that I am called by God to spread the good news.


Verse 17. the ones with bad attitudes had selfish motives thought they could bring harm to me and the message.

- we dont have to fear others ruining our efforts to witness because God's demonstration through the Holy Spirit is what matters

Verse 18. Either way it doesnt matter because whether its preached with bad attitude or good Christ is still preached so I'm happy
- the only thing that matters is Christ is glorified whether we think it should be done one way or not

Verse 19. I know this will help me grow in my walk with the Lord with His help and your many prayers.

Verse 21. If I live I will get to share Christ if I die I get to be with Christ

-God wants our life to be lived for him here but when we are called to go Home we will get to live with Him in a sinless glorious world

Verse 22. If I'm to live down hear I can promote Christ for a while longer but I dont know which one I'd rather do.

Verse 23. Its really hard for me to choose because for me it would be so much better

Verse 25. I know that I will be staying here to help you grow in the joy of the Lord and your walk with Him.

Verse 27. We must behave as worthy of carrying the good news, so that whether I return or not, I can hear that you are standing strong in the Lord and letting him lead your hearts and working together to spread the good news and enduring til the end together.

Verse 28. Dont be afraid of anyone that does not agree with or goes against you. To them it will lead to their destruction but to you it will only make your walk with God stronger.
